I loved being proven wrong...BIG SLAB.

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

I loved being proven wrong...BIG SLAB.

Post by RJ »

Over the years I’ve fallen in love with Crappie fishing. A truly challenging fish to track as they transition in spring to summer patterns then even tougher as fall time comes. Fun but challenging.

We’ve hoisted hundreds if not a couple thousand Crappie into the Lund over the years and one fish always eluded me, a true 15 inch fish.

To date we’ve had almost 20 fish over the 14 inch mark but never that 15 incher. I began to doubt Eastern Ontario could produce that fish.

Well I was wrong.

Laid flat, mouth closed with no tail pinch. 15.5 inches.

Next cast was a 14.75 incher. For a 2 minute span I had died and went to Crappie heaven.

16 incher next.....

Now that's a monster slab!!! I never thought i'd see a 30 inch walleye come out of the Ottawa, but the day i got proved wrong was the best day I've had fishin. Good luck on getting a 16! :D

Awesome RJ. I love how you immediately set a new goal. Hopefully you can go right back to this place and catch her next year. ;-)

That pattern on their scales is awesome.

As a non crappy fisher the full significance of this catch might be lost on me... but... is a 15 incher similar in elusiveness as 5 or 6lb bass?

I'd say in these parts a 15" slab is as rare as a 7lb largie. Nice catch dude.

That's awesome Rob!

Craig... a 15" crappie in Eastern Ontario is very rare.
A 14 is hard to get. Hazarding a guess. a 15" would be 1 in 10,000+ type of odds if not less.
