If there could only be one, what would you take?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

If there could only be one, what would you take?

Post by lape0019 »

ShawnD started a group text with a couple of us and asked a specific question:

If you could take one setup fishing on a body of water (ours revolved around the Rideau), would would it be.

Rod:
Reel/ratio:
Line:
Lure: (this one was optional)

My answer was:

Dobyns Champion 734
6.2:1 ratio
17lb mono
And for an optional bait, a spinnerbait.

My reasoning is that rod is very versatile and the reel ratio would be great for anything. As the bait is optional, this setup would allow for multiple techniques but works wonders with a Spinnerbait.

For the rest of you, what would it be?

Mine would be a Loomis NRX 852C with a Shimano Chronarch CI4. The lure would be the tough one. Tube..Senko..tube...senko..tube..senko..spinnerbait..tube.. senko..jig..tube..senko????

My 2 cents:

Dobyns DX 743 full handle
Lew's Tournament Pro 6:4:1
Lure: tube(Lunkerhunt) or spinnerbait(Terminator)

Not real fancy, but my go-to, "confidence" setup.

Feel free to play and I encourage it!

The Rideau was what was thrown out for us, but I would say this is for any situation. I picked the spinnerbait because it is a confidence life for me. It just so happens to be my go to tech Kaye when all else fails.

My second lure option would be a weighted tube or worm which this would would handle quite easily. I am a big fan of the Mizmo green ou kin tube and do not have a preference for worms (traditional style anyway. Love the sick stix for wacky rigging).

Ed,

With a username of "Toobinator", I would not have expected anything else!

It doesn't matter. Pretend that portion isn't in the thread.

This one is easy and is something I have ready to go pretty much all the time.....

Rod - 7' MH St Croix Legend Xtreme
Reel - Daiwa Tatula Type "R"
Line - 12 lb Invisix
Lure - 4" green w red flake tube
If you're gonna be stupid, you'd better be tough.

Never leave home without a tube.

Rod - Loomis NRX 893C 7'5" - Med-Hvy Ex-Fast (The DX743 will hate me for saying this)
Reel - Megabass IS79 UC 7.9 (Replacing my MGX 7.9)
Line - 12 lb fluorocarbon (at first sign of overrun, I'll go with 14lbs mono)
Lure - 4" green/red flake tube texas rigged with 3/16 bullet weight (A 7" Red shad worm is a close contender)
BAA - 2016 Team 18 (10 shy of 28)
Renegade Bass - 2013 Team 67 - 2014 Team 28 - 2015 Team 51
BAA (Great organization) 2011 and 2012 Team 7

These are all great setups!

I didn't specify a reel but the 6.2:1 ratio is also on a ci4+ Chronarch.
