If there could only be one, what would you take?
Re: If there could only be one, what would you take?
I bet at any point I have at least 3 rods rigged with that particular jig. I love drifting 4 inch tubes with them too. It's slower fishing, almost Senko like but it's a bulky presentation that straight out gets munched.

For me it would be
Rod: Dobyns DX 744CFH
Reel: Abu Garcia Revo MGX 7:1
Lure: Strike King 1/2 ounce white with a little red spinner bait
Line 20Lb Power Pro SS
As much as I try to learn and get better at different techniques I will always love my spinner bait.

Topwater can be killer on the Rideau!
I slayed them with a Pencil 110 last season. It was my go to bait for most of the season. A field mouse would work in some spots quite well.
Good pick!

PMac would be disappointed

Wow, a lot of serious gear knowledge here! I think I fall in to the same category as AlmonteFisher, but I'll take a swing. Here's the one and only combo I own, for the angler on a budget:
Berkley Lightning Rod - 6'6" Medium
Shimano Sedona 2500 FD 6.2:1
20lb Power Pro
Chartreuse/White Spinnerbait

Supernova,
I think I that has more to do with who responded rather than what to use.
We all start somewhere. I threw everything with a Shimano Compre/Pflueger President combo for the first year. I slowly bought rods and now have a few more. Everyone starts somewhere.

Nice combo. I am pretty sure you like it and pretty sure you catch fish too.Supernova224 wrote:Wow, a lot of serious gear knowledge here! I think I fall in to the same category as AlmonteFisher, but I'll take a swing. Here's the one and only combo I own, for the angler on a budget:

Like lape009 said, we need to go wih what we can and start somewere.
It's nice to have expensive gear but that means you will be eating more Kraft Dinner with water (not even enough cash for milk ).

Thanks guys. And you couldn't be more right! I love that combo and it's served me well. I feel like you'd be hard pressed to find a better reel in that price range, but maybe I'm biased Oh the dreaded kraft dinner with water! We've all been there, even if we're not proud.

Ok, I'll give in even if I rarely fish this river that is 20 minutes from my house :0
