Read this..... then if you haven't yet please, go sign this petition. With just 400 signatures and some public comments it seems changes to the park plan are all ready in order. Lets get the 1500 signatures the council wants and stop this thing in its tracks.

Done. Plus sharing on FB. Sounds like money talking here. Of concern to me is if this proposal is being considered by McNab and not rejected already then it might be too late. Let's hope not.

Cheers

What are the issues around this? I was under the impression that the launch would still be available to the public?

Is this the first of any public area supposedly under used to be threatened by Profit driven developers. think about it.
I signed to protect this and any other areas that can come under the same threat.

Maybe in the short time, maybe not in the long....

Habitat destruction would be my biggest concern, not just in the immediate area but all over the river. That piece of water would not be able to handle a huge increase in boat traffic, Especially those meant to water ski and wake board behind. It would have a HUGE impact on the shoreline and water quality.

On top of that it would no longer be a niece relaxing place to go fish

I think this is a worthwhile cause to support, but object to this statement, which on the face of it is simply not true:

The drunk driving incidents & vandalism will skyrocket in the area.

In an otherwise well-thought-out preamble, this sticks out like a sore thumb and provides a target for those on the other side of the petition.

Agreed and have heard the same from others. Contacted the person that created it and it has since been changed.

Regardless if you fish this water body or not, this is about protecting a fragile resource. Please, if your going to do one good thing today.....sign this.

How valid are names on a petition when the wording of the petition can be changed without due notice given to people signing it. Should they not all be notified, so they can verify if they still want their name associated with it?

What's to stop the person from going back and changing it again later, maybe to even include pledging allegiance to Alah, ISIS, the OFAH or PETA ?

A few have mentioned that this will impact an already fragile eco system... remind yourselves of the fragile eco system the next time you back your boat into the launch and fire up your 2 stroke outboard.

Can anyone prove this is a fragile eco system? Was there studies published proving this or is just a mater of opinion? If it is truly a fragile eco system, shouldn't the boat launch be blocked off and the water way from the Stewartville Dam to the Arnprior dam be closed off to motorized boat traffic?

Are people suggesting that anyone who enjoys camping throw all their garbage in the nearest waterway?

Wow, conspiracy theory much, The wording was changed to better support the position.

And no, not anyone and everyone that enjoys camping...however, have you been up around some of the back Calabogie Lakes? FACT is there will undoubtedly be an increase in pollution. We are not just talking camping here, up to 300 RV sites on a shared septic...what if that leaks...or floods?

Almost the entire shoreline of that portion of the Madawaska is comprised of this clay. A large increase in boat traffic out there is going to speed up the already fast moving process of erosion out there. When this shorelines erode the created sediment loading, that sediment will cover vital spawning, nursery and feeding habitat. That's a FACT, Mike. One of the bigger issues is loss of access to a public park. Loss of access to OUR environment is an ever increasing issue. This township is ready do so in the name of creating revenue in hope that the people who use the park will spend money in the township. They won't, they will spend money in the Town of Arnprior, so almost nothing will be gained by the township other than 200g's up front for a development fee.

That stretch of the Mad is a relatively young water body, being impounded in the 70's. It is really coming in to its own as a productive fishery with some trophy fish in it. Smallmouths over 5 pounds, Largies over 6, Walleyes that will break, muskies up to 58 inches. Something like this could inevitably be a giant leap backwards.

I don't want to preach to ya though Mike. I'm sure you think about your impact on the environment ever day when you use your re-usable TP,before heading off to river in your electric Prius, with your kayak on the roof, so you can fish with barbless tungsten jig heads, just to water release every fish you catch.

If there are factual concerns they will be adressed through the geotechnical study which will pretty much put an end to the proposal

i would think the township already knows they don't have a lot of stores , so taking 200 g upfront and then anual land lease income would be good for the tax payers. A camp ground with a restaurant would obviously create employment opportunity as well.

Is there any proof that the boat launch will no longer be a public launch with user fees?

Concerns about increased boat traffic? What controls are in place today to limit the amount of boat traffic?

Septic concerns would all be taken care of via most up to date standards and inspections.

I am the furthest thing from an environmentalist, I do find it hypocritical of people to say they are protesting the possible increase of boat traffic and impacts on the Eco system, but want continued access to do the same thing

I am more surprised that park land can be re zoned for comercial purposes.

The MNR will end up crushing this as the park land is suitable turtle habitat. Want to speed up that process, send the MNR a picture of a blandings turtle and say it was taken at the clay banks park.
