Rideau is frozen

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Rideau is frozen

Post by miker »

I tried to get out for one last musky hunt this morning at around 8...but turns out the Rideau near the 416 is pretty frozen. near shore I was able to stand on the ice (over 6 inches of water). I threw some rocks at a high height, and they didn't start breaking through until ~30 feet out. there was at least thin ice across the entire river.

ahh well. guess it is time to put the boat away.

I gotta say that it has been nice winterizing the boat when it is not freezing cold out though..my beer hasn't even froze yet!

Rideau is in zone 18 bass closes Dec. 15, there's still time! :D

We might even be able to ice fish for them if it gets cold enough

Last year we had just about 3 weeks of bass fishing on the ice out at White Lake, this year I'm not sure if it will happen but you never know.

Here are a few pics - pretty decent sized and tons of them, seriously caught about 50 on this particular day, nothing truly huge but all decent.

And Yes my hand is closer to the camera than the fish in all the pictures, no time to mess about when it's minus 20.

I remember a time when some folks from the Ontario side of the board freaked out when Quebec boys posted bass ice fishing pictures...How times change

regarding the back lakes... I went out for a late season grouse hunt in Lanark on Saturday Nov. 29. Saw one of those back lakes up close, specifically Green Lake off of French Line Road. Was completely frozen and my buddy, who's braver/dumber than me, walked out on it about 20 feet. It held him even when he was jumping up and down. I wouldn't recommend anyone go fishing there just yet but it looks promising, especially now that it was -15 today.

Oh, and I saw two grouse, but missed them both. Shotgun must be broken. :D
