New Pb musky.

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

New Pb musky.

Post by lape0019 »

Decided to hit the Rideau with River Monster this morning for some bass. With the cold front and rain we received yesterday, I figured a slow presentation would be key.

Decided to use my Dobyns Champion 702sf to throw some wacky rigs. I tied on a 1/16oz weighted wacky hook and attached a. Powerteam lures sick stick in white on there. I wasn't having any luck until this guy hit!

And for those who think I am bs'ing, I am not.

At 44" I don't know if I will break this one anytime soon. I don't fish for musky but that fight made me want to a whole lot more! Any idea how much this would weigh? My guess would be in the 20 pound range but I have no idea. At the tail, I couldn't hold it because it was too big. River Monster had to revive her for me.

A common method of estimating weight for musky is Lenght X Girth X Girth / 800 = Weight. Looking at the picture I would estimate the girth at about 18 inches which puts the weight at 18lbs. Very nice fish.

after Musky...Everything else is just bait.

Thanks Pasquini,

It was definitely the biggest fish if my life. 18 pounds seems pretty darn close to what we figured so I am happy with that. It wasn't exactly a quick fight so I figured a pic with some quick measurement of length would be about all I should take. I didn't want to keep it out of the water any longer than I had to.

Way to go Adam. A damn fine looking Musky there. That must have been a riot on a finesse rod like that. Congrats on the landing. Did you even have a net?

Cheers

Thanks Smitty,

It was a challenge to say the least. The drag on my Stradic was screaming for 5-10 minutes. I would get the fish to the side of the boat only to have it peel another 20-40 feet of line off of it. This happened 5 times. The wacky hook was straightened out quite a bit but some how managed to keep that beast pinned.

I was bass fishing and am set up quite well for that. I do have a net on the boat but it is nowhere near big enough for a fish that size. Luckily, River Monster is a Musky addict and was planning on targeting musky after we were done fishing (we met at the launch. I had my boat for bass fishing and he kept his boat on the launch so he could continue to fish after I left).

Because of this, he had his pair of cut proof gloves, long pliers, spreaders and bolt cutters with him. He was able to use his stuff to pull the fish into the boat. I thanked him profusely because there is no way I would have gotten that pic without him there.

Again Rick, thank you!!!

lol,

No no Mav!

No billy bats were used in the release of this gorgeous fish. Even though it probably ate a few of the fish I enjoy catching.
It did run itself into the side of the boat a few times though.
