Fishing & Farting

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Fishing & Farting

Post by Jimmy_1 »

Howdy!

You read that right!

I have a good buddy whom I fish with a lot.

If the action is on the downside my buddy will triumphantly let the Butt Trumpet sound!
He is determined that by expelling noxious gases into the hemisphere it always results in more bites.

Now, question is do you have a silly fishing superstition? If so what is it?

If the day is going slow I have two I do.

1) - Dip the net into the water but only 3/4 of it.
2) - Eat a snack of some sort and it usually creates a hit or two.

Curious to see what others do with this.
Fishing isn't a matter of life and death....
It's much more important.

Mine's more a of a 'Karma' superstition. I place bass tail-first, as gently as possible into the water. They bob, perpendicular for a few seconds then calmly swim away. I figure the less stress I put on him or her, the less liable he or she is going to tell all their fishy-friends that they’re about to get caught.

Wow!

Only 2 responses to this light-hearted thread

So who smokes copious amounts of cannabis?
Who wears the banana peel on their head?
Who swears by wearing their wife's g-string?
Who grabs spiderman's junk?

Another buddy of mine is famous for quipping "Hi I'm so and so and I don't catch fish"

Usually shortly after one hits!

True story brah!

Well I've heard of people not liking banana's in there boat......I swear it was someone on this forum.....I'm sure they'll chime in.......

I'm not very superstitious, but this past summer I had great success with a banana/banana peel in the boat............a couple more times of that happening and that will be my new superstition, to bring a banana.

I'm with Almontefisher... Always dip the net when trout fishin, but don't really do it fishing for anything else for some reason. I dip the whole net though. Second go to is the same too.....if action is slow start eating a snack or do something else that takes your attention away because they always seem to hit when your not paying attention. No comment on other methods 8)

The net gets dipped. All of it. Must be before fishing starts or the day is compromised.

Want to get bit?
- tie a crappy knot
- get someone to hold your rod for a sec

I say prayer to whatever body of water I am on. If on the Rideau river I say " oh Rideau river gods please let me catch a fish I promise I will put him back and thank you in advance!" Its worked a scary amount of times.. :D

Cast a top water, leave the bail open and light a smoke... or try to light one!

Works every time.

Farting?? Seriously Jimmy? Why not just hang your butt over the side and coil one out too??

Only fart when the boat is under gas power. Two stroked mask it better than four!

I feel the same way. I don't feel like fish will tell their fishy-friends they were caught, but I feel like if you release a fish without being gentle, it may spook away the other fish. Like a lot of people who were brought up fishing and hunting, I believe that when catching/releasing to take care to make sure the fish has a strong chance of survival. When keeping a fish or hunting an animal I feel like it's bad luck to cause any type of suffering that isn't absolutely necessary. Everyone has their own opinion though.

The moderator who posted above me had a good way to catch a fish that usually doesn't fail. Casting a top water, and leaving the bail open, lighting a smoke. I rarely smoke but even if you don't smoke I find fish always hit when you are not expecting it. It's always when you're grabbing a snack from your bag or handing someone a drink. Never fails!

Cheers!

Craig,

Yes my buddy seriously does cut one. He is convinced it works......

As for crimping one off the side....Not on my boat you don't!
Especially if your rusty sherrif's badge is twitching like a rabbits nose before hand!

Smoking while fishing (casting) is tough....plus at the cost of smokes these days I wouldn't want to waste one.

I usually throw a coin in the water as a gift to the fishing Gods.....
