New to fishing - Ottawa river

I have been fishing around Petrie and Blair laetly using plastics, spinners and recently got a craw-fish crank. I am looking for any advice when it comes to fishing these areas from shore or any shore fishing tips in general. Aiming to catch a smallmouth. Not really sure about the technique I should be using in these areas (rocky/swampy).

Any where rocky that is somewhat clean it a great place for a shallow running crankbait.
a Top water lure would also work great.

If its super swampy, a hollow bodied frog works good. It's a topwater that'll go anywhere and won't get hung up.

Tubes work well for me for SM. Get some hooks with 1/8 oz weights on, slide em into the tube (need to moisten the inside with spit). Cast out, let it fall to the bottom, bring in the slack, wait, lift and let it fall again, repeat until bite, set hook, real in SM bass, pose for picture, light your pipe and stand back and admire your handiwork.

I'm not sure about Petrie or Blair locations but I recently just started fishing in little shallow weeded sections on the Rideau river. We've had no success from shore with spinnerbaits but we've taught some smallmouth using a popper (does that count as a crankbait?) but we for sure have the most success with a 5" pumpkin senko rigged wacky style on a Gamakatsu Finesse Wide gap 2/0 hook. We're fishing in areas of the river with weeded / slightly rocky bottom. All we've caught so far is smallmouth.

As per my reply to your other post: use topwater lures at dusk, like the jitterbug. You won't be disappointed.

Thanks for bringing this forth to me. Last thing I need happening is losing a perch after a 7+ hour dry streak to a cutthroat. Thinking of using my crank, spinner and plastic for now until I get used to them before I move on to more lures. Thanks for the tips guys!

cant go wrong with a wacky rig! just buy a pack of senkos in any colour you fancy, rig it with a circle hook ( size 2 i think?) or a weedless wackly hook for around weeds. super simple but very effective. Good luck!
