Kapuskasing bound!

Hey all: I am going to be heading up to Kapuskasing July 21-25th for work and was wondering if anyone knows some good lakes rivers etc to try while I am up there. Any species, any size and within an hour of there would be good. I would love to try and catch some big pike if there is any lakes up that way that would fit.

Cheers

Right in Kapuskasing, there's a park right beside the river. You can fish from there.

Oh Dan you are truly great. That works just perfect for me. I will be staying at the new Super 8 in town and was hoping to fish before and after work..ok maybe during also...lol. What else is around there within an hour? I keep reading about the Kap river being very good for pike and wonder if there are many points to access it by foot and car?

Below the dam and to the East of the dam in the bay the park has a walking path all around the bay. Google it and you'll see where I mean. As for the rest of the Kapuskasing river it's pretty well boat access. But once you get there I am sure that people can help you more. My hometown is 40 minutes east from there. I use to fish below the dam in Smooth Rock Falls all the time from shore.

There's a couple of bait shops on Brunetville rd. Vic's bait, close to Clear Lake rd. And a hunting and fishing store at Brunetville and Sheppard can't remember the name of it though.

I just sent an FB message to a friend that has a cottage at Remi Lake, there used to be boat Rentals there. I'll let you know what she says. Remi Lake has pretty good walleye fishing and I could probably get you a couple of fishing spots that could put you on fish pretty quickly, Remi Lake is pretty big and it's only like 20 minutes away from Kapuskasing. I used to spend my full summers at our cottage there.

Thanks for everything Dan. I appreciate it alot. I look forward to hearing what you can come up with for all that stuff. I remember Smooth Rock Falls from a buddy of mine. His buddy lives in the town and now that I know it is within an hour of Kap I may see if they are around for a fish as well.

Who's his buddy?? If he's our age I know him for sure. Unless he moved there in the last 34 years.

If you can find someone to take you up the Kapuskasing River where it meets the Groundhog and Mattagami Rivers you will not be disappointed. The river system is vast and as wide as the Ottawa is at its widest in places. Takes an experienced hand to navigate depending on water levels.

I've had some pretty good success on Remi lake....big pike. Look for them between island narrows where the water is deep. There are also smallmouth in Remi. I find most of the walleye I catch there are related to wood and weeds. The shoal fishing has been done to death.

Somebody mention Rufus. Not been there but I hear it's great. Another alternative is Guilfoyle....walleye and pike.

I'm heading up at the end of July myself so try not to catch them all! :D
