Canadian Tire Selling Cheap Knock-Offs Again

You may remember my post last year about Canadian Tire advertizing and stocking shelves with boots called "Kamik" which are made in Canada... but in reality the boots were chinese knock-offs of highly inferior quality (even though the shelf, prices, and flyers all called them Kamik Made In Canada...

Anyway... wanted to alert you that they are doing it again!!!!

My friend has an awesome life jacket made by Roots with an attractive and comfortable mesh, front pockets. etc.

I went into Canadian Tire to buy one today since they are on sale and discovered that once again they have replaced the units on the shelf with chinese knock-offs. The jacket looks exactly like the roots one, same colors, etc. but the materials feel cheap and stitching was terrible. It was called a "keep a float" life jacket.

Photo of the unit on the shelf is attached, it clearly isn't Roots brand or quality (checkout their website and you will see that the photo and description for Roots Mesh Life Jacket don't match what is actually on the shelf.

Also have to be leery of their fishing equipment as well!!

Bought a couple of "Shimano" rods there a few years back, even went so far
as to sell them "autographed" ('signature series' ) by 'Bob Izumi'.
They were complete P.O.S.'s!!! I have other Shimano rods/reels which I really
like, but I don't even bother bringing the "Bob" rods anywhere with me.
CTC has way too many 'hard to believe' deals, and they rarely turn out to be
worth wasting your hard-earned cash on!!

That is highly illegal and would be very hard for such a large retailer to get away with. It is the manufacturers that are producing there products in different countries. The Shimano rods you are talking about might very well be shimano but made in a factory in China or some other country for Shimano that doesn't produce the other higher quality ones. They try out newer and cheaper manufactureres in those countries all the time. I highly doubt Canadian Tire is importing and selling knock-off's.

X2

To me a knock off has the same name as the actual brand they’re copying.
Kinda like fake Oakley glasses or fake anything for that matter that can be bought at L’Encan de Masson! Lol

The PFD is clearly not a roots but a similar design…what’s wrong with that?

Are they advertising it as a Roots? I’m not sure I understand.

So did you buy it or not

Certain stores are carrying the Dobyns rods. But to what extent?
I doubt very much that they will have all of the lineup in stock.
From what I read, some Crap'n tires will only carry the savy line of Dobyns rods.
Did you know that CTC also sells G Loomis rods? (But not the NRX lineup)
Did you know that CTC also sold (Not any more) St-Croix rods?

Most people who buy fishing equipment at the Crap'n tire are looking for the not too expensive stuff.
Anyone wanting to purchase a $300 to $700 rod will not be going at the Crap'n tire to do so.

Interesting.....

In one post it was "impossible"

to

"Ya well CT may sell em but not the high-end ones"

:?

Your point is well taken. No, most people going to CT are not looking for high end stuff.
Just like most people going to a Hyundai dealership aren't looking for an Austin Martin.
People going to Wal-Mart aren't looking for Bang and Olufsen
People going to McDonalds aren't going for prime rib au jus.

BUT. The point I think the OP was making is that yes, you can now get some lines of Dobyn's rods at certain Canadian Tires. Nowhere did I read you could go to CT for the high end stuff.

I think the whole point of this thread actually is that CT does sell low end stuff. Why? Because its within most people's budgets and some people just wanna say "I gotta X rod" and can now afford to do so.

The whole point of the thread is about the perception that CTC is selling "Cheap Knock-Offs".
So is CTC selling Dobyns Knock-Offs?
