Talk about bad luck.

Was looking forward for a day carp fishing in Long Sault today. Had made preparation, packed last night, left this morning at 7:00, stopped at Timmy's then just south of Ottawa, the engine light lights-up. Pulled-over, stopped, turned engine off, waiting 10 minutes, started it up and after 10 seconds, light comes back on. With the distance going and then coming back from LS to Gatineau, did not want to take any chances, so back home at little "p_ssed-off". Guess will bring in the truck in to Kanata dealer tomorrow morning for possible cause.

Princess auto sells engine code readers cheap, and it would tell you immediately what the code means, and if it's only something stupid like a loose fuel cap you could have gone fishing! Often the check engine light is for non emergency problems that can wait. "S"dealers charge you the price of the code reader just to read codes once, so owning a reader pays for itself the first time you use it.

Often times its a sensor, maintenance reminder or something non-critical that causes that light to go on. Disconcerting nonetheless. Crappy Tire has cheap readers you can buy. The port is located usually below the steering wheel somewhere. If you go talk to a mechanic at CT sometimes they'll help you out....

Looked a few YouTube link on the scanner/coder.

Any particular one you would recommend. Some reviews are so-so on some models.

If the light isn't flashing then it's safe to drive it. Mostly caused by loose gas cap or faulty sensor.

Marko

Sorry about your car. Mechanics told me as long as its not flashing its ok to drive, for whatever its worth

LeGrand, If it's any consolation to you, the area inside Long Sault Parkway is still pretty much frozen over. You may have been out of luck even if you'd ended up making the trip!

Marko, I was hoping. Know of one guy from Montréal going today which knows the area very well.

Tony at the CCC e-mailed me telling me the water still cold but open in a few spots. Action certainly slower in April than May-June, but just felt like tryin myself. He is to advised me. I'm also checking Carpe Québec link regularly.

Going to bring the truck in today. As others mentioned, might be nothing serious, but better safe then sorry.

Ottawa River coming well with ice breaking-up and flowing away from one of my spot, but current in others pretty swift.
