ice fishing fish finder question
ice fishing fish finder question
I have a old but still good fish finder I no longer use on my boat and was wondering if it would be worth bringing out ice fishing since I do not have a flasher and this will be my first year hitting the ice more then just a few times? Thanks!!

It will give you depth if you can rig up the ducer somehow, not much else is my bet.
You'd probably be better by getting one of those weight clips to determine depth, it'll be quicker.

I have used an older piranha model and it works ok, adjust it so you can see your bait moving up and down as you jig and so you can see bottom.

I don't get it. If it will mark fish in the summer, why not in the winter?RJ wrote:It will give you depth if you can rig up the ducer somehow, not much else is my bet.

It will mark fish, I turn off my fish id ane just use the indicators my unit shows, not the little fish symbols

Nice!! I rigged already so its good to know I did not waste my time

Smitty, I'm not going to get into why a flasher is more suitable to be used in the winter over a graph. Some will argue til they are blue in the face they prefer it so I'll leave them be to use them.smitty55 wrote:I don't get it. All I can say is I've seen so many "Magivered" setups to be used on ice that offer you nothing but knowing depth. Unless you've gone to a broadband system that Lowrance has there is a delay to your LCD that does not exist with a flasher.

Sorry it was not my intention to start a heated debate!!! What I can take from it is that a flasher would be better but with my limited budget my old fish finder will work to some extent!! It will be better then nothing!
