Hey I just moved from Almonte to near Merrvickville this summer. Our new place in 5 minutes from the Kilmarnock Lock on the Rideau. I plan to poke around this winter to see if there is any decent ice fishing in that section of the Rideau.

Just wondering if anyone has an experience ice fishing the Rideau around Kilmarnock? Species available? Usual ice conditions?

Thanks

JimW

Hey Jim, I have spent many summer days on that part as its 15 minutes away from my place. I have caught a few 3-4 pound largies, some small pike and small perch. I have only fished on the smiths falls side of the lock. Didn't venture on the downward part. For what its worth I spend most of my ice fishing time on Mississippi lake. I had some great success there this summer and last winter and can't wait to get back.
hope that helps
steve

Thanks for the info Steve

I've fished Mississippi Lake lots of times, one of my favourite lakes. I will definitely be hitting the Mississippi this winter, just looking for a couple new spots close to my new house that I can head out on thie ice if I only have a couple hours to fish.
