My First Musky!!!!

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

My First Musky!!!!

Post by FishToLive »

On Sunday, I hit the Ottawa River with my kayak for some bass. I launched at Blair ramp and I drifted/fished along the upper/lower duck island. On the pedal back, I decided to troll with a husky jerk. I hooked up into something that felt very solid. It spun me around a couple of times. I freaked when I saw it was a huge musky!!! Obviously I was not equipped to land this beast. Fortunately, I was able to flag down 2 fisherman. From their boat, Ben landed it and removed the Rapala. They even took the time to snap awesome pictures with my phone. It took a while to revive it but it gave Ben a good shower when it took off :D It's nice to know it's still in good health! What a fish.

Based on the size of my hand on the vertical picture, it is between 43-45"!!!!!

Thanks to Ben and his buddy for the help!!!!

My first musky ever....as a bonus, it was in my kayak!!!!!

What an insane fish to catch from the Yak - we bet you will be packing a few extra tools for your next trip out. Nice of the randoms to stop to ensure she got to swim off safely and you got a couple of photos you won't soon forget.

Thanks for sharing!

Wow that must have been an exciting ride!
I've yet to get my first musky, but I kinda hope it's not from my yak.

First and foremost congrats! ALways an awesome fish to catch.

Now, and with all due respect (and before the MUSKY guys point it out).

You should never hold a musky as you are in the second pic. This can break the spine and kill the fish.
Now, I realize it swam off and all was likely ok, just info for next time....as with 1 musky there is always a NEXT TIME!

Kudos!
