Saturday Rideau report

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Saturday Rideau report

Post by CNs »

Got out on the rideau yesterday for a few hours.

It was hot...so was the fishing

The rage toad / buzzbait bite was ON!

I was going to try some areas I had been bypassing to see if there was anything going on
I also decided to take a photo of everything I caught (except jackhandles)

after 6 bass i stopped taking pictures because they were all clones
I used 2 rods:

1) Cumara 68 MF fast action baitcaster paired with a Shimano 200e7 spooled with 50 lb Power pro tied to a Strike king Rage toad green/white

2) St croix legend elite 68mxf baitcaster custom built paired with a quantum 100ht, spooled with 10 lb sniper floro tied to a withe buzzbait (origin unknown)

here are the first 6 fish:

Nice fish Norm!

Can't complain about a day like that even if it is hot.

Nice pictures.

As for me, spending the weekend with wife cleaning a duplex and moving my daughter into it.

Yes hot weather. Thank God the pool water is wet and refreshing at the end of the day.

Honestly, rather be fishing.

Busy action for ya Norm! I haven't fished the river in about 10 years, gonna have to swing out that way soon as Birdee and I are signed up to fish the MS Bassin Tournament in a few weeks.

Good job!

I always laugh when I read reports from the Rideau, I swear I couldn't catch a fish on that river if my life depended on it. I was out there this past Tuesday and didn't land a single fish. I did have one absolute PIG on, but it took me into the weeds and got off after a few seconds of hooking it. I saw this thing come out of the water a few times and it had to be at least 5-6 pounds. Biggest bass I've ever seen in person.

I tried plastics, crankbaits, buzzbaits, spinnerbaits and flies. Hooked the biggie on a spinnerbait and other than that, NOTHING. Not even a hammer handle. I'll figure it out one day!

Glad to see you guys had a sweet day on the rideau. My son and I launched out of the provincial park near kemptville and we caught nothing. We were in a canoe and paddled straight across an drifted down to kemptville creek and I had a couple of top water blow ups but nothing hooked. We threw everything we had and nothing. I definitely want to try again one day.
On Friday we were out fishing the docks in CP and my son landed a nice lrg mouth that was following my crank baits and he threw a senko and 2nd cast bam he had him 2lbs 16oz.
Catch it, Record it, Release it, Repeat it
