Suggested Pike Lure through the Ice

Hey Guys

Was out last Saturday on the Ottawa and we got into some really nice pike action. Caught them on suspended large dead (kinda rotting) shiners(7") and an a couple of different jigging lures. We kept a couple for the table and when cleaning them found both pike were full of sunfish (3 in one and 4 in the other). Are there any jigging lures on the market that resemble sunfish. I know we did well with what we were using but thought it might be cool me use something that resembles what they are eating.

Thanks

Ted

I agree with yannicks post. They do have a fetish for big orange or chart pimples. I've heard alot of people do well on airplane jigs, myself ive never used one for long. Always go back to my pimple or buckshots when jigging, my convidence lures.

Those Northland panfish baits look amazing. I will definitely keep my eyes open for some of those.

Do any shops carry them here in Ottawa?

If you have your heart set on using soft plastics to jig, check out Storm soft plastics. I use the shads for vertical jigging big pike on softwater, don;t see why they wouldnt work on the ice. They have a quite a few bluegill/pumpkinseed patterns too, not sure if any of them don't have a lip though.

Thanks for the advice!!!!!!!!!!!

I went out and bought the Storm "Wildeye Live Sunfish" at Sail today AND
I have an "Orange Pimple"

Will try both for and equal amount of time when I hit the Ottawa on Friday and post the results...........might be a prize for the most successful suggestion.......... :D

More to follow!!

Try that Orange Pimple for walleye too...especially early and late in the season. Over the last couple seasons, they've been my go-to lure for big eyes.
