What to buy in the states

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

What to buy in the states

Post by SeaMonster »

I have access to a snowbird who can bring me some loot back from Florida.
I've asked them to keep an eye out for some fishing stuff, but in general (fishing) are there things that are much better deals out that way rather than here?
(yes, if it's a deal I am genetically programmed to buy to matter what it is... :D )

Shore Side Planers

Off Shore OR 18 Adjustable Tension Release

These planers and clips are hard to get here in Canada.
Davis Fish Seekers

Good alternate to down-riggers and/or lead core.
Again cannot get in Canada.

***Except at Gords; Bits and Baits in Stittsville***

Hope this helps!

I know you said fishing... BUT...

Canadian Flags are MUCH less expensive there...

AND Genesee Beer, Ramblin' Root Beer... and Beechnut Chewing Tobacco.

Those fish seek divers look interesting. Never seen them before... I guess they're kind of like a dipsey diver?
Reels seem to be the same price, as are rods, for the most part.
Was looking out for a used bow mount trolling motor and used Sonar/GPS combo.
I guess I have to be careful about Saltwater infiltration.

Have you seen that "Storage Wars" show on (discovery channel?)
Anyway, that's my Dad when he's in FLorida. Buying lockers, buying, selling at fleamarkets, and on e-bay bring back "the good stuff".

I've done a bit of that myself out there. There is nothing like that here at all. It's amazing the stuff you can get for pennies on the dollar, but you of course have to wade through a lot of junk and have a way to get rid of it.

Yeah, and the beer is cheap, but it's crappy 4% american "beer".. or pee pee (hey I didn't type that) yellow malt flavored imitation beer. *barf* (from the taste, and not the booze)

Sorry Gord, I was not aware that you stocked or can get this stuff.
I did inquire sometime back through this site and drew a blank.
I ended up buying over the net!
Next time I need something I will inquire directly to you.

For sure Andy;
There are some fishing stores in Ottawa who would carry the planers.
Gord said that he has them.
Back in December when I bought mine, neither LeBarons or Sail had them.
I guess that the on coming winter had something to do with their stocking!?

As far as Davis Fish Finders go, they are definitely a hard item to get in Canada.
Again, Gord said that he has them.

As far as our friend SeaMonster goes, well the Davis product is less restricted in the water as opposed to Dipseys. Better fish fight!

Thanks, hope this helps.
