Lac Hughes close to Otter Lake, Quebec -- fish there?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Lac Hughes close to Otter Lake, Quebec -- fish there?

Post by highlander »

Has anyone been out onto Lac Hughes by the town of Otter lake in Quebec?

http://www.anglersatlas.com/lakes/68769/

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source= ... 1&t=h&z=11

Trying to determine what I should be targeting and where I should be setting up.. Will be out with 10 kids on a scout trip.

See that you'll be at the Scout Canada Camp.

Any considerations as to QC licenses for fishing?

Great Bass lake. Some Pike but few and far between. Rockbass and Sunfish as well as Catfish have also made their way into the boat. Private Lake btw, but I gather your going with some scouts....

Seems as if your putting in at the boys camp (makes sense since your bring 10 boys up with you) That bay is great starting spot, there is a rock ledge to the right in a small bay you can actually see on your google map, but have caught fish right in the middle of that bay as well. I always fish around the "big" island that is in the area as well. But the best place IMO would be almost the other side of the lake in the narrows at the end of chemin Lepack. Anywhere from the point of the pennisula back into the bay should hold panfish. You can't drive out the pennisula as it's private property but if it's a nice day wouldn't think the walk over would be more than 20 - 25 mins.

Have seen some Brook Trout at the mouth of the creek that would be at the end of chemin Scout (no clue about access from road) but as soon as they see me they disappear. Have not heard of anyone catching these on the lake but they are there.

Good luck.

Hello fellow Scouter! 3 fingers!!!

1st off, be aware that the camp is wood stove heated (stove is in the center).
Propane is used to cook. Bring your tanks and spare connections w/tools.
Be prepared to play with the oven!
Bring a back up stove/s for cooking!
Sometimes the locks freeze! Be prepared to heat them to unlock!
Bring spare plastic, cloths and duct tape/hammer & nails in case there have been intrusions on the building! This would stop a cold outing.

The lake is fished during the summer, but hardly during the winter.
Try just offshore in front of the camp.
You should catch some pike and crappies.
Of course be careful of the water/ice.
Special note - Brown Trout - Good Luck!

Hah! You guys are amateur!

We're actually planning on tenting the first night and building survival snow shelters outside for the second night, Survivorman style. I'm actually not sure if we're going to use the wood stove/cabin at all or very little. That's cub stuff. These are scouts :)

All cooking is with naptha and camp stoves as we find propane doesn't work well in cold.

Do never ask me for advise again!
You should be shamed from Scouting with that attitude!

Please let me clarify attitude in Scouting.
A Scouts Canada/Us/etc.. is a Beaver, Cub, Scout, Venturer & Rover.

A Leader/Scouter is responsible in showing how, when, where, who and why it be done.
A Leader/Scouter always respects another Scouter in his path, and on the path.

I hope it was clear I was joking, see the little happy face!

Ok, enough about scouts, back to fishing! Was happy to see you recommend just off the camp -- not sure we'll get too far and will definitely start there. Thanks all so far with the hints.
