Just as an FYI, it is illegal to release bait fish. This is due to the chance of spreading disease.....

oh and if they fall off your hook while there still alive they won't spread disease?????
ONLY WAY TO STOP THAT PROBLEM IS BAN ALL LIVE MINNOWS IN THE PROVINCE OF ONTARIO.
I wouldn't have a problem with that one bit! That's the law in Quebec and should be implemented here too

put ur shiners in the fridge mine last forever as long as i change the water every couple days they seem to last weeks....got some from new years eve alive in my fridge since ive only been taking the muds out to go for walleye
