Huge Valley surprise

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Huge Valley surprise

Post by Mike P »

Decided this week with the cooler temps it was time to give the specks a try. Headed out with Hook-n-Shoot to one of the Valleys speck lakes. I have yet to catch a monster speck and was hoping today to be the day.

Arrived on the lake to have it all to ourselves. Quickly loaded and launched the boat casting the shorelines.

No luck casting, and decided to try a troll. Wasn`t 3 seconds into a troll and I feel a hit, and hook-set. Right away this fish peels out line almost to the point of spooling me. We chased him in the boat gaining line, still not being able to see him, but knowing we have a beast!

The battle is ON!. I`m using 6lbs test, and had to play this fish with caution. Peels line and runs three more times before we get him near the boat. We see a FLASH!

That`s one huge shinny speck  Finally get the fish in netting range, H&S with a great netting job and into the boat. What a strange looking speck! Amazed and shocked at it`s size...besides that, it`s a BOW!

H&S put her on a spring loaded scale...11lbs! A 11lbs Valley Bow! A complete surprise all the way around. What a great day.

Geez Mike, that is a beautiful fish. Is that one of your biggest landlocked bows? And, the story started off talking about specks....did you catch any??

Hey Mike

That's a fantastic Rainbow from a small lake. Troutmaster does it again. Here's the other pictures that you asked me to post.

Yes Jeff, that by far is my biggest inland Bow by about 6lbs. No other bites were to be had on this day.
