Laker Season Ender

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Laker Season Ender

Post by Out4trout »

Got out with my son today on Charleston Lake for some season end trout. It was an enjoyable way to spend the afternoon before school starts tomorrow!!

The overcast skies were appreciated, and we only had some light rain lasting a few minutes at a time. It was a bit windy at times, but calmed toward evening.
Good news from the graph, we marked more balls of shad than I have seen in the past 2 years on the lake!! Not anything like the glory days, but seeing the shad again in specific areas certainly gives hope for an eventual recovery of the deepwater forage base. :D :D The shad were marked from 40-60ft down. Under each ball of shad we marked lake trout, some suspended and others on bottom.

We caught a good number of lakers, mostly smaller ones but well proportioned and feisty on the light tackle. All the trout caught were released to grow up a bit!!

One pic for the log book... typical of the small trout we were marking and catching today.

We finished this evening in a small bay, for some topwater LM. A most enjoyble afternoon to close off the summer holiday season!

Nice laker Out4trout. I was out Sat in the wind storm. Marked more fish than I have seen in a few years with lot`s of bait around. Fish seemed very active on the screen but had locked jaws.

Neat to learn about the large amount of shad and how you could mark the trout underneath...that's pretty cool (and encouraging)!

Sounds like a nice end-summer outing for you and your son.

W.
Thanks, Dad, for taking me fishing when I was a kid.

We were hoping to get these lil fella's grandpa. :D
Lakers this size aren't even spawning age yet. Hope there are enough spawners left to keep the cycle going.
