What Is In Your Cooler?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

What Is In Your Cooler?

Post by cprince »

More from the nosy series of posts... from the same type of inquisitive mind that brought you "What Is In Your Tackle Box"?

What is in your cooler.

Now this question has a qualifier. We are talking all day fishing. Sun up to sun down.

I keep looking for frozen foods that would be thawed by supper hour and still be good without cooking.

I end up with junk. Cokes and sweets... now that I have turned the 3 month corner at quitting smoking, I need to put the breaks on the junk food... I look down in the shower and.. well... you might get the idea!

What tricks do you use to keep it all cool?

almonds and peanuts, I am also bad for bringing pop but I do try and bring some water or gatorade too, for those long days. Never hurts to pack a wrap of some sort either. You just want to stay away from things like eggs that'll have you running for shore!

Ice cold water bottles, and power bar (granola type). Some fruits don't hurt.

I hear you about the smoking ... closing in on 3 weeks myself ... quitting is easy for me .. I've done it so many times !!

I have a dehydrator so I make my own jerky ... spicy, sweet and sour, etc. That and an apple or two ... oh and two bottles of water ... one frozen and one cold ... then I leave the cooler at home.

the night before I go out I fire up the BBQ and cook chicken wings, some lamb or pork all of which are good cold, (spice em up for flav), also if you have a spot to stop on shore and light a small fire stick em on a stick an heat them up, freeze water bottles and juice box,s , Beef jurky is a must.
as well make some salsa but make it hardy Recipe:( old el paso salsa, add fresh avocado (mash half dice other half), onion, red and green peppers, jalepenos, and ground turkey cooked of course. 8)
I like fishing with monkeys

Good on you for qutting smking, I've been smoke-free for 5.5 years now.

Drink I mostly bring water or Gatorade if it's cold a thermos of tea or coffee.
During warm weather I will keep 1 ice cold bottle of water in my cooler for the drive home but the rest will be ambient temp. I find that too many ice cold drinks messes my stomach up.

Food I usually make myself some sausage on the bbq in a bun. A couple of cookies for sweets.
When hell freezes over, I'll be there icefishing!!!

Whatever the wife packs me!! 8)

Usually it is water with flavour packs ( Nestea etc) juice, a few pop for the buddies as I do not drink it unless it has rye in it...On far back lake excursions I will bring a few wabbly pops for victory celebrations. Two sandwiches usually, some granola bars, cheese, crackers, trail mix, pickles, pickled eggs if a short day excursion, 1 chocolate bar to keep the energy going and a thermos of coffee. Now do I usually eat all this...NO. I am usually too busy fishing to eat it.

Oh and a few Cherry Colts for ambiance

Fresh fruits, ice/water in a proper container, seeds/nuts.
What else does one need :)

3 Litres of water

Some bean sprouts...and BEER. And if there is no beer in the cooler than there is SCOTCH in a flask...and not crap scotch either! A lot of fishing trips have that moment when plan A and plan B go in the crapper. That is the time for a mental reload. A cold beer and cuban does wonders for the brain! Also at times when your hazels are near freezing because it is darn cold out in the rain... nothing like a belt!
