2010 Whitefish Lodge

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

2010 Whitefish Lodge

Post by bullseye »

Another successful trip to Whitefish lodge. This time I went in July so I could take my 15 year old son. (my usual trip is in October - he's in school)

We fished several lakes in the Gracefield area and had a good time at all of them. My son set a goal for the week to catch three fish species he had not caught yet: Pike, Laker & Whitefish (We have mostly Bass & Walleye in our home waters). Well I'm proud to say he did it! We did not set any records for huge fish, but we had alot of fun.

The weather was HOT but it didn't seem to matter to the fish. We were able to limit out on some nice whitefish for the freezer and even brought a few bass and Pike home for the ride!

As usual, Charlie and his staff gave us all we could ask for. Whitefish lodge on Lac Heney.

One quick story - while trolling for Lakers one day , I hooked into a small whitefish (10 incher). we had stopped the troller while I reeled the monster in..... He had been foul hooked and of course felt much bigger. We tossed him back off the back of the boat and he no sooner hit the water and POW!!! a huge Pike (40 inch class) hammered the poor sucker! He actually missed him the first pass but turned on a dime took him whole the second time. Maybe if I had reeled a little slower he would have hit him with my lure in his mouth!!!??? Pretty cool stuff !!

We'll be back next year!!

Nice report! Glad to hear you had a good time.

Whitefish Lodge is, by far, one of the best hidden gems in the Outaouais. I hope that place never gets any bigger, but keeps being successful. They are sitting on a gold mine.

Just one question: What was your technique for whitefish? Strictly trolling?

Glad you and your son had a great time officer. :D
I'll be heading up the third week of August to put the hurt on the bass.
GuinnessGuy,
I try and get at least one outing for whites each year and have found that a 3/4 to 1oz Hopkins Shorty does the best job. Vertical presentation in 150-200fow.
Charlie does run a great place. Every year he adds a couple of "improvements" but no matter, it will never loose that homey feeling. Great fishing, great food, great companionship and great friends.......priceless.

We were using lealine and jerklining. Worked great on green lake.
And yes, I met met my goal of a laker, whitefish, and pike, like bullseye said 8)

Great stuff, the smile on your son's face says it all.
All fishermen are liars except for you and me, and to tell you the truth, I'm not sure about you.

Yes, we slow troll (les than 2 mph) leadline with small trolling spoons. Michigan Stingers are the brand name. The real trick is finding fish. This summer they were hanging in 60 -80 fow around 40 ft down. In October we find them around 30 ft down.

What Pke-Dreams means by jerk-lining is literally grabbing the lead line and giving it a smooth jerk forward and then letting the spoon flutter back, then do it again, and again and again..... They usually hit on the flutter back. I just sit on the gunnell facing forward and swing my arm like I'm pitching horseshoes......... It's a workout but it outfishes straight trolling 5 to 1 in my experience anyway.
