What kind of fish is this?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

What kind of fish is this?

Post by HotelTango »

Went to Cartier lake today in the Petawawa research forest and my girlfriend landed this little guy. Wondering what it is ???

Great lake to go to if you want quantity, not much for fish over 2Lbs. Lots of Larigies and Smallies in the 1Lb range. Surprisingly this was the 2nd time we have fish there and we did not catch a Pike. Could it be that this lake has no Pike ??? The only downfall about this lake is that the gates to the research forest open at 8ish and close at 17:30 so if you are still out there after they close the gates you might have to break your way out.

Cheers

Almost has scales like a carp, although I know it isn't one. Fallfish or shiner, I would have been scratching my head too!
Fishing is a heritage we need to teach. Take a kid fishing! And take me too while you're at it.

Fallfish...one the small end of the scale. This time of year you start to see the big ones (in the 15" range). ;-)

Fallfish is also called silver chub, or just chub.

I caught about 2 dozens on St. Lawrence yesterday on worms. Nothing more than 1 lb though.
