A Couple of Bass Outings - July 20/22

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

A Couple of Bass Outings - July 20/22

Post by JustinHoffman »

Hello All,

Reports have been certainly lacking from me this season  . Have been out on quite a few outings, but most have been solo and hence, picture-less.

Did get out this past Tuesday with my buddy Andy. Hit a section of the Rideau on where on the water by 8:45am. Hit one of my better back bays with frogs first thing, and fish were quite abundant within the pads, slop, and open water troughs. Water depth ranged from six-inches to four feet.
The topwater bite was steady for a few hours, at which point it was time to pull out the flipping sticks. Typical spots produced fish on jigs, including docks, laydowns, and slop.
After the final cast was made (close to 6pm) we had put 24 largies in the boat, with the last fish of the day (that came from under a moored boat on a jig) taking big fish honours at 3lbs 9oz.

Off to a different body of water with a friend that was in town yesterday. With a limited amount of time to fish, and with this lake giving me trouble in the past, finding some largies to play was giving me some worries.
After little luck finding fish deep or adjacent to weedlines, I headed into the shallows and worked the docks. The fish were quick to show themselves. Two fish over 3lbs fell for a jig within the first half-dozen docks, and then a chunk of a largie came onboard that is big fish for me so far this short season. This girl came from under a moored boat adjacent to deep water and hit a 1/2oz. Booyah Jig before it made it to the bottom. Was fairly certain I had my first nickle of the season during the fight, the scale settled at 4lbs 11oz.

Had a fish shortly thereafter suck in a jig and spit it - all before I could get a hook in her. She was definitely a nickle...

A short 2.5 hours and we had to head off the lake. I'll be back again this coming week to put a full day on the water there, and see if the dock pattern will hold up once again.

Until next time....

Good Fishing,

Justin

Nice report Justin. 8)

Just wondering, did it go something like this?...

"Fish on! ...Oh it's a good one... Oh yea! I think it's a nickel!" (Justin lands the fish and weighs it) " ...well, it's not a nickel but close." (Justin then says to his friend) "Hey I have an awesome idea for a picture angle. Here take the camera. Now jump in the water and snap the photo!"

Am I close?
