Replying to open seats: A Report
Replying to open seats: A Report
As I was sitting in the chair at the salon getting my hair did and browsing on the crackberry, I noticed an "open seat" post by slop and I was all over it... I figured I was about 14 hours too late though........ The post had 44 views at the time and not one single reply. I guess one of two things had happened: Jimmy_1 had cleaned things up around here, or no one wanted to fish with slop. However, I quickly recieved a pm back with the details. Details were in the form of a question: "We're going exploring, have any ideas?" My reply was also a question: "Exploring for what?" Decison: "Whatever, wherever, let's tour dude"
I picked up slop, we hooked up the disco and away we went. Still no destination or species decided on. We were fully armed with everything 'cept the "mucksy" gear. The final decision involved some risk, but the long debate ended with us hitting a new lake on a short schedule. We had 4 hours to fish, which is sometimes not wise on new bodies of water. Anyway we went at 'er, and we went at 'er hard.
While scouting the new body of water for structure and trying to eliminate areas we thought would not hold fish we were left with nothing. We had eliminated the entire lake. Nothing looked appealing to us. We only noticed one other fella on the lake, and we did what no angler should ever do. We went against the fisherman's code of ethics, and we moved in on someone's spot. He was sticking to a very tight area for the entire 30 mins we were scouting. He had his mind set on something and we figured if he could see something, it might be food or structure, so let's try to weasel our way in with small talk....
We still don't know what that dude was so interested in, as the small talk approach did not go over so well. He did what any angry angler would do in this situation. After a few choice words, he blasted off. Never seen him again, but my guess would be he's the one responsible for the the white stuff all over my truck back at the launch.
Whatever he was so fixed on, was also attracting at least 120 of these dudes.............
..............and at least 8 of these fellas...
Something had to be done about this extremely over-populated area.
So.............We removed 26 of these from the poplation. Selectively havesting fish between 10 and 13.5 inches..... Real, true, summertime dinner plates.
After applying a highly complicated and convoluted wildlfe management fomula we concluded only 2 of these guys need be removed.
The lack of replies to slops open seat offer really had me thinking. I have concluded that Jimmy_1's rant had no affect on the members of fish-hawk. The conclusion was sadly and simply that no one wants to fish with slop. I mean why would you, I felt like a total butt moving in so closely on that guys spot. So to that guy if you're reading "from above", I am truly sorry, you were really onto something hot there.
Here's to all the generous people who offer up open seats. Keep 'em coming, us boatless gypsies are overly grateful when things work out and we can tag along..........whether or not we have to read through 100 replies of why people can't make the open seat.
Thanks again Slop.

If you can't stand behind our troops,
Please feel free to stand in front of them!!!
Experience is that marvellous thing that enables you to recognize a mistake when you make it again

Craig we were simpley controlling the population. So no food porn. All fish went into the garden.....
Wait a minute, we did gorge on some beer battered goodness Sunday evening. RJ I could not taste the diff between summer and spring. EVeyrthing tastes the same smothered in beer batter and deep fried to a perfect golden brown color. We will we having some tonight pan fried, so I should have a more accurate report.
Thanks again guys.
