Tyee or not to be report

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Tyee or not to be report

Post by Mike P »

Made it down to Lake Ont for another crack at some salmon this past week-end. Arrived with Sniper at 4am and by 4:30 we were on the water. While setting lines down we had our first strike. Ends up being a little chinook around three pounds.
We get all the lines down and hook into a rainbow about 6 pounds.
It's now about 6am and the downrigger goes off. I end up being the lucky candidate! :) This fish peels out line jumping about 250ft behing the boat, then dives straight down heading towards the boat. Some coasting into the net and we knew this was bigger than my last.
Back on the launch we find a scale. My biggest freshwater salmon to date... 30.12 pounds! Don't know if a freshwater salmon over 30 pounds is considered a tyee or not, but in BC it is! :)
We end the day with Gary boating two nice rainbow's and then good ole Lake Ont weather put us off the lake.

Welcome to the TYEE club!! They are called Tyee's here too.

Well done and great report. The salmon this season are huge. More tyee's in the last 2 weeks have been taken from Lake O then I heard of all of last year!! Crazy.

Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Nice job Mike...One of the last fishing trips my father took he went to BC and landed himself 2 tyee's..One was 37 lbs and the other was 33. They look huge in the pic.
Fishing isn't a matter of life and death....
It's much more important.

Very nice Mike!

Agreed Scott, Lake Ontario this year has the biggest bumper crop of salmon goin in years.....I dont think youll get a sniff at winning a week of the GOSD without having at least a 34 pounder.....that is impressive.
