Big Rideau Lake

In the fishing regs it has

Big Rideau Lake (The Bog and Long
Island) - poo poo and Burgess Twps

Fish sanctuary - closed all year.

Can someone on here tell me what part of the lake this is referring to?

I will be camping at Murphy's Point this weekend and would hate to be in the wrong spot.

Thanks

see

For reference - Murphys point is at the top of the map near rocky narrows label.

Long island is marked on the map. The water "inside" the island borders is the sanctuary.

The Bog is marked at the south end as the fish sanctuary and is shown as "little lake"

For a map of other side of narrows, see http://www.fish-hawk.net/hawktalk/viewtopic.php?t=19052 - again - Murphys point is across from the rocky narrows text on the map.

Have a nice trip, lots of water to fish.

Anyone know why these areas are sanctuarys? Something special in there?

 Lots and lots of places for mummy and daddy bass to raise their young'uns without a bunch of numbnuts fishing "pike" in 1 foot of water.

JIG'S...you are my new best friend and hero buddy... 8) :D

An anglers who calls it like it is "NUMBNUTS"...doesn't get any more self explanatory that.

May an 8 pound largemouth engulf your top-water this summer.

Don't get me wrong.... I have no problem with sanctuaries...... I was just wondering if it was something else since they are closed all year.......

Hey Bradford, not at all directed to you man...I have asked the same question of the MNR years ago and got no answer. 8)

Not a dig at you, Bradford. All you did was ask the question. Nice to see someone showing an interest.

The Rideau (for eg.) really gets nailed with respect to bass, and whatever else uses sanctuary water - sunnies, and crappies I would imagine; and I shudder to think what would happen without them (sanctuaries). T'would be a pretty barren lake.

Also; thanks, Big Jim, and Dropshotter:lol:
