I like Ambassadeur baitcasters & Shimano spinning reels.
For rods I like Kistler and BPS ProFinesse and Nitro series of rods.

I own Daiwa, Shimano and Quantum reels and the Daiwas TD's are by far my favorite.
However, a good word for Quantum. I picked up a Burst and a Code at the Paddletales turkey shindig last fall and used the Burst for the first time yesterday to chuck some swimbaits and spinnerbaits. For $70 or so, the Burst is a wonderful little reel and I expect the Code at around $100 will be very capable as well.

I kind of like my combination of a OKUMA reel and St. croix meadium rod.

For sure Shimano is probably the best reel and rods. I find that they are reliable and affordable. My runners up are Fenwick & St-Croix rods and Quantum Accurist reel.
