too late for crappies on the Rideau?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

too late for crappies on the Rideau?

Post by marble eyes »

I was planning a trip to Dog Lake for this week end. Is it too late for crappies up there? Has anyone been getting any?

Last weekend the sky was partly cloudy and it was windy, but we were able to catch a few from 12 to 15 ft of water off of points and shoals. The lake we were in had a surface temperatures of about 58 degrees.

Sorry. If anything, they tend to bite better after the spawn, but later in the day.........just before, and after dark; or early in the AM, just when the mosquitoes really start on you.

When the weather gets warmer, look for them during the day in "deeper" water, remembering, it's relative to the lake or river. Hunting is usually better near underwater "stuff" like sunken trees, etc.

Small jigs at dark, any colour, long as it's black.

S'all I know. Not much.

My sense of humour is tedious at the best of times.

I know there's another thread on Dow's Lake, and I certainly have no intention on keeping (nevermind eating) anything I catch out of that water, but are there (still) crappie to be found in there? I've never caught one and I'd like to add it to my list!

cheers,
