Local fishing seminars
Local fishing seminars
I am trying to organize fishing seminars that would be free for anyone who has a love for fishing. The speakers would be local respected tournament anglers and guides.
Please let me know what you think.
Your input would be great.
Thanks
JP

the biggest thing to seminars held by "pro's" is, are they going to be a learning seminar, or an opportunity to sell the sponsors?
i've seen a few very good seminars, but the majority are just reasons to sell the sponsors goods.
a way to look at your seminar is, how long can you go, teaching, without mentioning a brand.
if you can go 15-20 minutes teaching a technique, without mentioning a brand name, it'll be a great seminar....

I was once told.
"Sponsorships have nothing to do with how "good" you are, but how "good" you can sell a product"...
Now before I get my head bit-off...this is what I was told by a sponsored fisherman.
So, can you go 15-20 minutes without talking about a rod, reel, lure or line?
I see very little on technique and alot on substance.

Jamers thank you for your input.
The seminars would be not sponsored based and would have cutting edge ideas and techniques.
The seminars are not being put on to sell product as much as it is to share fishing knowlege with our fishing community. It is not based on my sponsors or anyone elses and will be an open forum and ina laid back setting.
The location will most likely be at Turpin Pontiac because we have free facilities with enough room to hold 20 people +.
I am trying to get at least 3 presenters and am open to the idea of multi species.
Please keep the comments coming.
Have a great day.
Cheers

It seems like a great idea, but I can't imagine the pro fisherman on a sponsors payroll being allowed to go do a seminar and not mention the product line they have a contract to represent.
I know what my next move would be as a sponsor if I found out the guy I was paying or providing free stuff too went around teaching people but not pumping my product would be.

People giving the seminars can mention what products they use as it is part of thier presentation. Presenters can and may choose to wear sponsored clothing. BUT It will not be a commercial!!
The people I am planning to have present are very respectfull and respected in the angling community. They would be volenteering thier time to share their fishing knowledge with you.
These are all great comments people keep them coming.
Best Regards

I agree I would participate in such a seminar. It would be nice to have some stuff on basic needs to start off fishing to encourage parents to spend a littlle to get kids in the game. the price of tackle can be quite forbidding to limited income families or single parents. It's a lot of fun to get out fishing and can be inexpensive and still have acceptable equipment.
I'm old enough to claim that i started fishing with a tree branch, some fishing line and a hook then to bamboo pole and so on..

Hey JP,
I would love to attend a seminar with a little more of the 'Where' are the fish vs the 'How' to catch the fish. A great topic would be how a bass angler dissects a new body of water by studying maps and lake features of a location they have never fished. The decision process he or she uses to eliminate all the dead water while keying in on fish holding locations for Small Mouth Bass and Large Mouth Bass during cold fronts and stable weather patterns.
