ottawa region.monster musky....posibility.?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

a probable record is coming.

the stlawrence or georgean bay is suposely the best place for record..but we got chance for it here.

I personally doubt it Joco....while the fish we are seeing are wicked to even sniff the record they'd have to nearly double in size!...

Fordson and TMH's fish are roughly 30 to 35 pounds short...

The Ottawa is an amazing fishery...but compared to Georgian Bay or the Larry....it's small....

I've boated thousands of fish from the Ottawa and only a handfull over 54 ( a lot in the 53-54 inch range ) with the longuest at 56. I somehow dought there can be any 60+ or 58's for that mater. But they can be fat as I have boated lots over 40 lbs with a couple around the 50 lbs mark.

I'm sure there must be a freak or two out there that will never be caught so I guess we'll never know just how big they get.

My guess is they did their homework before setting a 54 inch limit as to me that seems to be the maximum grow rate for majority of the Ottawa River Muskies.

I also saw a presentation by Dr. Cassleman and he states that 99% of female muskies in the Ottawa will reach 50 inches, now that's some great news.

I've stopped counting but yes over 2 thousand for sure. I used to boat 50-70 yearly as a weekend angler and average over 200 a year since I started to guide in 2000.

Joco it's just that muskies grow a lot slower once they surpass 50 inches. So this means for a fish to get to 60 inches it would have to avoid getting caught for many years. In other words if the same fish was caught every 2 years it would be 55-56-57-58-59-60 so to get from 56 to 60 it would avoid lures for 8 years.

And yes I've recaptured many fish over 50 and they grow 1/2 inch per year. One 50 got to 52 about 4.5 years later.
