Filets (2004 post)

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Personally I only keep the ones that are big enough to fillet like a walleye.

Legend, where do you fish perch?

Do you visit Long Point Bay? If so, I'd be happy to meet up with you, catch a few fish and give you a hands on filleting demonstration. They're easy, but a limit of 50 can sometimes become timely to do.

I fish long point bay for Perch near EC-10
I really like the area for it's great wildlife and good folks. I used to fish Simcoe which is not without it's charm, but there aren't many places in Simcoe where you could catch the variety you can get down at Long Point.

Sure I'd love to hook up sometime.

Big-O, at the risk of being ridiculed....I do eat sheephead!

People always cringe when they hear that, but do you know anyone who has tried it? They have a white boneless fillet. It is a bland, but a shake of lemon herb spice and they taste fine.

aside from crap, clean em like a walleye
cut your fillet and cut out the "Y" bone
I personally don't dick around and cut out the area (ya can feel where the bone is)
2/3 down , right in the middle, cut the strip right out
there are different ways but why mess around
