Big Walleye at Petrie (Turns out it's a big LIE)

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

I'd post a report, but with no pics, I'd be eaten alive.

Just reporting what somebody told me !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here is the latest

It was last weekend, a 17lbs plus caught at the mouth of Baitshop Bay, by Jack Chretien from a boat. Pictures were taken and measurements taken, the guy went today to drop off all those things at the Taxidermist in Carp. My wife's uncle knows him and he will keep me updated with all the info.

Personally I don't know any taxidermists but if somebody knows the one in Carp maybe phone calls can be made???

By the way it was released??????????

I'm not saying thios is a true story ,I'm just reporting what I've heard.

Of course it's possible. Why wouldn't it be? Good on the guy. I'd also love to see some pics of that one.

According to In-Fisherman, Feb. 1995 in an article titled The Hunt For Mister 20, One Gord Kingsbury of Aylmer P.Q. landed one of the top ten largest walleye ever caught at 18lbs. 12oz. in 1983 on the Ottawa River. The article stated that this is also the P.Q. provincial record! So if your going to ice one of these you'd better be drilling a nine or ten inch hole.
The article went on to say,"...the Ottawa River, though quite polluted where it ranges into P.Q. from Ontario,(Not sure about where this fish was caught but this seems to indicate somewhere near Montreal)....Contacts on both sides of the river had no idea such a fish had been caught and knew nothing about the fisheries potential."
Nothing like protecting the old honey hole! The Ottawa river as we all know has the potential for a record fish of more than one species. The river for its size is unpressured and could easily cough up a 17lb. fish.

I think the Ottawa holds a good number of huge walleye. Lot's of bait fish and it is a huge body of water that is not fished very hard by most walleye anglers because of the difficult access to certain areas and you need to cover a large amount of water.

I get to see a large number of big fish every year and figure that walleye would have to go 35 inches in length and be at least 22 inches in girth to be moving in on the 17lb mark.

Great fish, I am looking forward to seeing pictures of a trophy Ottawa River walleye.
