Record Rainbow!
Here's an excerpt from an email I recently received:
>Attached are a few pictures of a rainbow trout angled from the McGregor
>Bay in the Espanola area earlier this afternoon. It is definitely a
>domestic strain quite probably a cage culture "triploid" escapee
however
>it was angled legally in open water and at 40+ pounds, it shatters the
>current Ontario Record for rainbow trout. It was weighed officially by
a
>postmaster in little current just after it was caught and the official
>weight was just over 40 pounds. With the angler's permission, I have
>removed scales for aging purposes and a dorsal ray for genetics work
and
>then froze it for further study and mounting. I also have the fish
under
>lock and key here at the Espanola Area office and I am asking for
>assistance from you as to what else if anything should be done with
this
>fish before it goes back to the angler for mounting.

taylor:
I'm not sure what's going on- I thought this fish was supposed to have been caught last Wednesday.
When I checked the photo EXIF's just now, they show Sept. 21st, 2005.
Looks like one of my MNR buddies is having a little fun with me!
Hook, line, and sinker...
I thought that fish looked familiar!

Yeah, I remember catching escapees up on Diefenbaker in Saskatchewan. The ice ripped open one ot the nets and let 40,000 bows into the lake. Man, we were catching 4 or 5 pound bows from shore on pratically anything you wanted to throw at them. Aaaah, the good ol' days. They were nowhere near 40 but now my biggest bows around here are barely a pound.
