First Buck & Second.
Gave it a go today at making up my first big in-line spinner for muskies. From the very end of the hook to the tip of the eye this thing measured 10.5". I put a 1 oz (could be a 1.5oz???) weight at the back of the lure under the hair. This thing has gotta weigh 2 ounces and should cast a country mile. The gold blade size is an 8, all the beads are gold and the hook is a dressed 6/0.
These big lures are tiresome, tricky, and use up tonnes of hair and thread.
Waiting for silver parts on backorder then will get to some black bucks.
Instead of 4 hours time was cut down to 3.5 this time. This lure measures 10.5" as well and weighs about the same, only difference is it has a single dressed bleeding hook.

NICE!
Nice looking spinner, Bunk. Good colours and looks well made.
Any reason why you went with a treble instead of a single hook, though?
Getting a single out of a big nasty fish can be a lot easier - for both the angler and the fish.
CCB- not a fan of trebles

Re: NICE!
You know CCB, good question. It was a toss up really. I think singles are great for spinners too. I've never caught a muskie, and these lures probably won't see water for a couple more years. I'll most likely tie some up with singles though, but for now, I have trebles handy, and don't think I have any big enough singles anyways.Cancatchbass wrote:Nice looking spinner, Bunk. What size of single hook do ya think would be good with these lures that are going to run 7-11"???
I think I'll do another this afternoon. Snow storm today keeping me inside.
RJ, trebles, gotcha. I'm keeping 19 and you get 1.
Thanks lads, I'm proud of the first attempt. Mainly yellow hair but when I tied the hair up the shaft I tied it in like this...
yellow, orange, yellow, brown, yellow, orange, yellow, brown, yellow, orange, yellow, white, then orange saddle hackle.
The shaft for this spinner is thicker than the thickest you can order from RealPro, so some of the bead holes had to be widened a little with the drill. Turns out too that the lead weight is a 1.5oz too, so this lure is definetely 2 plus ounces. Better make some lighter ones for when the arm is toast.

Dear Moosebunk, er, Santa,
I'll take one, too. I've been a (moderately) good girl this year.
Seriously, I'm thinking you did a fantastic job. I like the big, furry lures, and so do the toothies.
Gotta say, I'm always looking to the big single hook as an alternative to trebles, too, though I do use both.
Nice!

Thanks, Dad, for taking me fishing when I was a kid.

Got none that big for the moment. Whadda ya mean weight in the keel?Relic wrote:Very nice work, I am sure they will fool a few fish.
For singles you are probabaly looking at a 6/0 - 8/0...
Wolfe I'm not as north as Santa. And to courier one of these by weight from here to where you are would cost me my right kiwi.
