Gordo/RJ's Ice Hut Project.....(Updated Dec. 11th)
Well now that the site seems to be usable now....I figured I'd post this....
Well we caved......Gordo and I decided to build ourselves an ice hut!
We picked up the lumber, nails and screws Friday night.....$270 at Home Depot....
I drew up plans...Gordo looked them over and away we went...
Framing began....
Emmerson helped out.....well about as much as Sinker...
The floor was made first.....then started on the back piece....
The Back piece....a hole will be cut later for the wood stove piping...
Emmerson gave up on his task...
Next up was the runners for underneath....we decided to go with two......so we can clear out the area around the drilled holes to keep it fairly clear.....
Finished floor with runners...
Next up was cutting our holes.....this is when it started to look like an ice hut!...
We decided on 4 corner holes.....which gives you roughly 6 1/2 feet apart for your baits....
Now.....on goes the back piece and sides.....
Gordo is trying out the basement here...
Emmerson tries out the floor.....
Putting up the last side wall...
We finished the front door panel as well......by the lights of Gordo's van....so no pics were taken of that.....
Still to do......door....roof....windows....and paint.....
We are going with a slanted roof to keep snow off.....
Eye-Level windows......
Painted Red and Black...Sens flag will be flyin!
I'll update this as progress continues.....
We did great today.....in about 6 hours we got the floor built and all the sides up....a nail gun is a god send!
No injuries and arguments either....

It's looking good bud! And it'll look kick-butt with that Sens paint scheme.
One word of advice, with your runners that high off the ice you'll want to put a skirt around it to stop drafts. Or bank it with snow if you're gonna just plop it and fish in one spot the whole winter... they tend to freeze in if you're not always on top of it. I usually block my runners up off the ice an additional 1/2" on either end so they're not sitting on the ice the whole length of the runner (I use a little piece of plywood to do this).
Can't wait to get out there and join you guys Come on ice!

Seems we have a lot of Hawk Talkers with "projects" lately!
Looks good, guys...actually, it looks pretty big!
Can't wait to see it painted and done. Post pics when it is.
Will you name your shack?
W.
PS: cute pics of the two young ones, 2-legged & 4!

Thanks, Dad, for taking me fishing when I was a kid.

Runners
Since you only have two runners, you might have an issue with it trying to tip. You may need to block off the sides so that if you get a lot of people on one side, and no one on the other, it doesn't want to tip. Just something to test.
Looks really good guys. Wish I had one of those.
One tip, if your runners are made out of 2x10 or2x12 you might want to double them up. When I was a teenager, our hut had skis that were 2x12 and they didn't last, we doubled them up and it made a big difference and it help to keep the hut floating over the snow when pulling it. The single 2x12 would just dig into the snow.
Can't wait to see the final product.
