Round Gobys ruined my day!

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Round Gobys ruined my day!

Post by Akira »

Hi all.. I have been sidelined for a couple weeks from a stupid ankle sprain..Finally managed to get out today though..

Went to Milhaven to try to fish for some trout near kingston (Thanks for the excellent directions Orrsey!!)

However, when I got there, all I caught were these dang Round Gobys..
Probably chasin all the trout and salmon away from there

Oh well, it was good to get out at least :)

I see you set the gobie up in a nice little spot to work on his tan. Gobies love that.

Keep up the good work, only a couple million more to go.
Thanks Akira.

A big positive about those little guys...
The perch, walleye and other game fish ar getting fat on them.. also hear the comarants are eating them up too!

Gotta love mother natures way of taking care of the fisherman.

except all those fish fattening up on them are now highly susceptable to botchulism (sp), as gobies have a high tendancy to carry it.

anyone remember the Erie shoreline about five years ago?

You're right, Steve:

I was talking to a fisheries biologist this week. He mentioned that gobies carry botulism levels that are up to 200 times the levels that would kill most other fish!

Nothing good came come of that. They may be responsible for the massive die-offs of gulls, herons and other waterbirds that took place this year in some great lake area waters...

I hate to see warm temps like this in Nov. The gobies disapear when the temps cool off, but with this warm weather, brown trout dont stand a chance of spawning. The gobies just eat all the spawn. :?

Akira, Why don't you report it to the invasive species website. I'm not sure what good it will do but I reported the ones my son caught in a minnow trap this summer. At least they'll know where they are.

JD, trust me...the cost of a dozen minnows is nothing compared to the cost of being caught using gobies for bait.
