PB for Salmon(Simon) today

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

PB for Salmon(Simon) today

Post by Hoss »

Had another crack at the musky with Simon on Lake Scugog today.
Started off the day with a nice sunrise while trying to get some walleye before targetting Musky.

I managed to get a few dinky walleye but the real fun came with Simon jigging for the eyes and getting into a tussle with a huge muskie. No leader and 6 lb test didn't cut it but after a little jump she was GONE. Here is a shot of the light action rod shortly before the jump.

Not too long after that we were on a mission to find a musky and decided to troll. Once again Simon gets the hit. It smoked into his lure and did an awesome jump. This time he stuck around long enough for a measure and a pic.
A personal best for Simon at 41.5Inches :D :D :D

And the release

I didn't take advantage of it being my turn to catch a musky until quite some time later. Had a hit while trolling and had another one one for about 20 seconds. Never got a look at either but the one didn't feel too too big.(would have loved a pic though)

Tried some different areas and targetted different species. For the day we ended up with the one musky boated, 10 walleye and Simon was hot on the panfish gaining some more points for the derby.

Here is a few pics of some of the good eating size walleye.

Congrats on the Personal Best Simon.

Great report Hoss. Way to go on the Muskie Simon, better than we did tonight. Great photo for the wall there. Love the expression on your face before the "release".

Nice fish guys. What did you catch the musky on? How is the surface weeds on the lake?

:D It was great being out with Hoss and we fished hard. We were on the water just after 5am and came off at 7pm. The muskie that hit the 3" twister was on at 6:22 am so quite a start to the day. We have decided if you want to catch muskie on Lake Scugog throw walleye baits. If you want walleye throw muskie baits. Hoss was trolling a large muskie spinner and caught a walleye. I was throwing a 6" pike shaped body bait for muskie and caught my biggest walleye of the day! We moved around the lake and found walleye relating to the cabbage weeds. Just jig inbetween and work them out. The muskie in the am hit very soft. I thought I had a weed until it started to move and I told Hoss this weedbed is moving! The one we got trollling was on an 8" jointed believer. so a good day out and a few gallons of water to drink..it sured helped my farmers tan.

Oh ya..almost forgot Hoss was working on his panfish skills.. He is getting there. :)

He did do well on the walleyes today. That was a one pound erch..it just looks small against Hoss. :)
