What were we catching

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

What were we catching

Post by franklauzon »

Hey Guys,

Jersey-Man and I went fishing in Quebec on the week-end, and the report for that will come once we get the photos developed... Anyways, Jersey-Man was trolling along shore, and using a Fat Rap, perch color, hooke into a fish I have no idea what it was... It looked a lot like a carp scale wise, but it had a round head, with a normal mouth, not a sucker...

Sooo what fish, that would be found in quebec, looks like a carp, but has a normal fish mouth? Please gimme some ideas!! It's bugging me.

Sounds like a bowfin.AKA. Dogfish. Was it green and did it have one big long dorsal fin?

:) If it was around the 2lb. mark I'll bet a Rudd.

Did it have reddish fins?

Well

So far, legend is the closest... It doesn't have a long dorsal fin, it looks like any other "normal" fish with carp scales...

The Rudd looks quite a bit like it, but the one we caught did not have the red fins, and was more purplish-gold in color...
