Well was raining Saturday morning. Left around 11:00 A.M. Didn't have a hard time finding it. Road was very bumpy though and they have to do something about the railroad track.
Got their at about 1 P.M. Only to find out that there was a pike tournament going on. I was tempted to leave. This other guy was just leaving and said he was heading to Simcoe.
I had already payed $15 to launch at Lauderdale point Marina. I like their launch. It is a deep ribbed concrete ramp which is good for traction.
Anyways. Started fishing. I was still thinking about the Pike tournament and had myself convinced I was going to be skunked.
I was skunked 2 years ago at Sparrow and this was the place but it was in the dead of the summer(Super humid day).
Anyways. I have fished this lake before with rentals 5 H.P. What I realized was that I hardly fished much of sparrow. With the 40 H.P. I covered a lot more water and realized how small sparrow is, but is very deep at points.
So I covered alot of water, But stayed away from the bays and rivers. Just fished structures with drop offs and weeds.
Caught my first pike in weeds. Puny, Got off. Was a little excited. Then My Dad hooks a fish. Mr.Pike. 3.2 lbs on a spinner bait(his only fish). I didn't finish my roll but the camera decides to rewind after only 10 pics. Time for a new camera.
But what is 3.2 on a digi scale that only weighs to .9 and then goes to a pound? Shouldn't there be up to .15 ???
Then I hook another and lost it. The fish was swimming at me and couldn't recover the line fast enough. I lost another 2 like that throughout the day. Wierd. that hardly ever happens to me.......
Then I hooked 1 pike on a Buzzbait. 2.5 Lbs.
Then I hooked another Pike 1.9-2lbs on a husky jerk.
We sighted LOTS of dogfish. But I was looking for rolling channel cats.
Casted at the rocks and get a hit right next to it, hugging the shore line. First I thought it was a snag. Then I hear a splash and the tail snap. I go crap its a bass. My dad goes how do you know. I said I know the way it fights(smallie).
SO I bring it to the boat and it starts bulldoggin unbelievable. I couldn't pull it up. Then I see a huge flash. I'm thinking a monster smallie. I finaly bring it up? Channel cat!!! I am freeking out. 3.5 lbs channel cat and it was pulling like that???Can you Imagine a monster?First time I caught a nice sized channel cat in deep water(12-15 feet).
I was already hgetting disaapointed and regretted going to sparrow. NOT ANYMORE!! I was estatic!
I will definately be returning to sparrow. Then I hooked a walleye. 1.1 lbs. And that was about it.
Had another 3-4 follows to mention and like I said I lost about 3-4. Nothing big though, Does anyone know the Sparrow lake pike tournament results????

Here is some pics that were also on the roll.
I took a picture of some small fish just to finish the roll but didn't post them all.
Puky carp. But nice river system. i'm sure most of you recognize the place. Can we add this carp to my list?I didn't measure it. Want to take a guess?
5lb smallie? You tell me. Why did it come out so dark though??
My dad's first lure pike. 5.5 lbs.
Last weeks pike.

Sounds like a pretty good day of fishing, good to hear you had fun and caught some fish. I think i'm personally gonna wait for bass season before I fish Sparrow again.. it would just kill me to go there and have to leave the bass alone
We'll have to get out fishin' again soon.

Hey Rich. We definately gotta get together soon. What did I do wrong witht the pics?? And you forgot my Monster pic of my 3.5 lb channel cat , on the very first post.
As far as targetting bass? Stay out of shallow water bays and shore line. I only hooked 3 or 4 bass and the biggest did not weigh 1/4 of a pound. So they were definately not spawners
See were I caught the carp? Thats one of my Catfish places(but havent caught not even one yet there) and all I caught was a carp that gave me a 2 minute fight and 3 bullheads.

Hmmm I don't understand why that isn't working.. I find it best to actually open the picture from myfishingpictures and copy the link provided. Maybe its not working because you're just linking to the watermarks ?
