The Quest for Silver!!!

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

The Quest for Silver!!!

Post by JimW »

Well earlier in the week my fishing partner, Matt and I went in search of salmon, we didn't find any salmon but caught some nice rainbow trout, so we made plans to go look for some salmon East of Toronto on Saturday.

So 1:30am Saturday morning I set off with boat in tow... picked up Matt along the way and we headed for Lake O. First boat at the launch we put the boat in the water and head out. Fishing reports had quite a few rainbow trout being caught high up in the water column, rainbows are great but we wanted salmon so we ran out baits a little deeper in the hopes of finding a salmon. It took us a little while but we finally hit out goal and found salmon plus a few rainbow trout. Our best fish of the day was a nice chinook salmon in the 16-18 pound range. All in all a successful day.

Excited that we found some salmon but wanting more on the way home Saturday we made plans to go back out on Sunday.

So 1:08 am Sunday morning I pull out of my driveway, pick up Matt and we head from the lake. Fishing a different spot thanks to some tips from a great friend, we immediately start marking huge schools of baitfish and some larger fish, but we have no luck connecting with anything.

Finally after a couple hours the wire dipsey takes a hard hit and the fight is on... after a couple nice long runs I get the fish to the boat and Matt slides the net under the fish and we got it!!! A nice king salmon, especially for mid-June, measuring 27.5 pounds on the scale. Basically tying my PB chinook!!!

We fish for a couple more hours and get a few more fish, but nothing comparable to our first of the day!!!
Here are a few photos from the weekend....

And the weekend highlight my big Chinook salmon 27.5 pounds, 39.5" with 26" girth. Very happy!!!

I am still excited about the 27 pounder.... now I need to find a 30 pounder!!!
