Carpin'/ Camping weekend on the St. Lawrence...

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Carpin'/ Camping weekend on the St. Lawrence...

Post by RJ »

An annual trip for us, it's some much needed kick back and relax in a lawnchair kinda weekend. Setting up on the Larry for a few days is perfect to fit the bill. The best part about this type of weekend is the ability to have people swing by to sit with us for a visit and hopefully catch a Carp. I think we had a dozen friends and family swing by throughout the weekend...including Fiish! Great to have ya hang around for a few hours Paulo, nice to see ya land your first Carp on your setup down there!

This was often the scene....the best.

The water temps on the Larry are still cold, 52 degrees were we sat. Hardly the temps for high levels of Carp activity but we soldiered on.

Though the numbers weren't near where they have been in the past the size of the "lumps" that graced us were decent.

Couple of PB's for my girls....Ariel landed hers early in the weekend.

Birdee was all smiles with her new PB at 31.7 lbs...Oink!

More pics can be seen on our site if you need more of a big Goldfish fix!

It was a mixed bag as to what baits were working. After a steady pile of Maize into the swim, I had a mix of Big Corn, Boilies and Maize on my rigs and none of them were the star.

Great weekend away, recharged the batteries and made memories with friends and family on the banks of the Larry.

Fantastic!

I gotta ask where did you get your beepers?
Been looking to pick up 1-2 for myself and the wee lad.

We plan to hit the Sault end of June.

Nice. Real nice.

I'm also looking into a beeper (so many choices). Any recommendation?

I replaced 4 of mine this year thru http://newworldcarp.com/. They were great to deal with and are in Hamilton.

I went middle of the road cost wise. The most important thing to me is that they take a 9V battery that you can buy at the Dollar store instead of some european battery that costs 10 bucks or more. These things aren't rocket science and really not needed but fun to hear them scream..

Things should pick up down there soon I bet.

Family+Camping+Fishing=Awesome time!!!

Congrats Birdee, that's just a big tubby ol'carp!!!

Reminds me of fishing as a kid....but the banks of the Susquehanna were muddy.

Thanks again for the invite RJ! Even though we didn't hook into one I still had a good time chatting and learning a few things.
Congrats to Ariel on her PB (even though she's a Pittsburg fan :P) and to her friends' on their catches as well.
Looks like a you had a few decent piggies pop by over the weekend.
Birdie's PB is an absolute beast... Holy cow! Seriously. Congrats. :D

Thanks, but so many choices. How would I know (unless by contacting the shop owner) which one uses 9 volt batery? Guess I can make an average of price and breakdown the possibilities of your quote "I went midle of the road cost wise".

I am prety sure that they all take a standard 9V battery. (cheaper ones do anyway) This is a good one for the money
http://newworldcarp.com/osc/behr-eurobi ... p-822.html, it has different alarm sounds and the volume is adjustable

Seems like a great way to spend family time with the non-fishermen. All they need to do is pick up a rod whenever a fish is on. Congrats Birdie for landing that hog!
