The weekend on the Rideau River

Golden Shiners are a great bait especially in the winter time for pike. I have never caught one before but while out with the kids this weekend on the Rideau River, one of the kids pulled one in.



I guess we should have gone Pike fishing after getting this one

We also had an encounter with a Muskie which grab one of the hooked up blue gill which proved to be an interesting fight. The Muskie eventually let go and the blue gill was successfully released without a mark on it which was real surprizing.

We caught a pile of blue gill and pumpkinseed with a few perch mixed in.

The real bonus on the weekend was that some kids the never fished before came out and they are now hooked! Nice weekend to be out on the water with the kids.
