I'd love to try and get out, depending on work schedule . . .
Farren has always caught my eye, but never been there. The MNR won't continue to stock a lake with no public access. I called them about one on the current list that I couldn't see a way to access without ignoring "No Trespassing" signs, and they informed me that land had been sold recently, which contained the access road. The old owner was fine with it being used, but the new owner was unwilling to negotiate. As a result, stocking will be discontinued on that particular lake . . .
I've never been to Silver either (in the winter) so that'd be my #2
As someone mentioned though, walking distance/surface conditions could play a factor for some, myself included . . .

Just Bumping this up to the top as I am very serious about getting this thing together. I am pretty sure we have Silver as our go to but if someone makes a strong point for Muskrat I will listen...my personal preference would be to try Muskrat but it is a busy lake in the winter. Silver is a bit more quite but also less of a chance for people to catch something. Muskrat has those other species available that make it more of a spot for me.
So I am thinking end of Feb first Saturday in March as the go to guarantee ice days. How is the fishing this time of the year on these lakes??

Fishing isn't a matter of life and death....
It's much more important.

I am all about muskrat. I love that place but never do well for the trout.
I have seen them circling below the ice with no avail . With that being said it is directly off a major higway and usualy produces good consistent ice.
For that reason I will say muskrat . Oh and my PB Laker is from there.

I'm interested, and have never fished these lakes (winter or summer).
I think Muscrat is closer for me....so I'll pick that one.
I'll do my best to make the G2G whereever it is.
