Walleye outing

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Walleye outing

Post by plncrzy »

I have a neighbor who likes to fish but hardly ever gets out due to time commitments, lack of boat/motor etc etc.

I happen to be on holidays at the same time as he and so I offered to take him for a walleye hunt on a local lake 45 min from home.

We arrived at the lake at 09:30 under sunny skies , north winds and cooler airmass.... not good conditions for walleye.

My sonar showed a lot of fish in the 18-20' range with the majority of fish hugging bottom.

We started with bottom bouncers and worm harnesses, I had one fish on but lost it before confirming it was an eye, I could tell that me neighbor didn't like this "bottom bouncing" type of fishing and he wanted to CAST for BASS.... well, I'm not a BASS fisherman (too bad cause I now know the name of LAKE X :lol: ) so we compromised... I said we would troll crank baits along the shoreline in 16-18FOW... this should produce some bass and "MAYBE" a walleye or two.

Well it worked, I trolled a flicker shad, and my neighbor trolled a cotton Cordell perch from about 11:00 until 3:00pm.

Neighbor caught;

>22" walleye
>19" Walleye
>3 nice size SMB
> 2 nice eater perch

I caught;
17" walleye
3-4 nice sized SMB

we kept;

2 walleye
3 SMB
1 perch

drove home with the fish in the live well, cleaned them and had my family over at his place for steak and fish for supper....

Here's a pic of the neighbor holding the two eyes

Great report. It's always nice to just take someone out fishing for a good time. If I ever get my own boat :roll: I'll be doing the same.

No complaints with that mixed bag. I'd take those results any day.

Nice report.

you know where I live... draw a radius line 45 min away from my house and you'll come across the place :lol:
