father - son day of fishing

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

father - son day of fishing

Post by plncrzy »

I have a 15yr old (turning 16 in a couple weeks) who used to by my steady fishing partner. Hes becoming a teenager and as teenagers go, they tend to find other interests around this age  so its been difficult getting him out fishing with me especially when it seems that when we do get out, we don't have much success.

Well, fairly recently I have become acquainted with an "angler" who has taught me a lot and pointed me in the right direction. I took my son to one of the trout lakes and this new friend even lent a rod-reel for my son. Not that my son doesn't have any gear, but this rod-reel was equipped so that we could more easily target the fish.

My son and I drove out to this lake and launched my new new for me 16' Gruman packboat and my 2hp honda. we trolled for bows just as my new buddy had taught me. no sooner had we started trolling did my sons face light up and yell 'FISH - ON" :!: .... That right there made my day. Even if this was the only fish of the day, I was happy that he caught something.

It wasn't the only fish however and we continued to catch many more bows through the day.

The best part of the trip though was the re-kindled relationship and of course the fact that my son had a blast ..... and I now have bows for my smoker

No I'm not short, he's just tall 6'2"

Well this day I am POSITIVE would not have occurred had it not been for a fellow F-Hawker who I am sure by now all who know him, know who I am talking about

To this new FRIEND ... I say a sincere THANKS!!

Awesome, sounds like a fun trip! I have the exact opposite problem, I can't get the old man to go out fishing, yet alone get his license. Bought him a few nice lures for father's day, hopefully that'll entice him hah
