Winter Flyfishing
Hey All,
With the admitted lurking I have been doing to ease cabin fever symptoms, I figure I owe a report.
After going home last week for reading week I was very excited to go steelheading and feed my fishing addiciton. I drove down to NY state with two buddies looking forward to a day of relaxation and hopefully some fish to keep things interesting. The morning was slow, and after a few hookups in the upper river we decided to head to the lower river in search of some fresher fish, as most of the ones we hooked were rather dark and sluggish.
My buddy Colin broke the ice with the first fish landed, a beautiful brown trout. It took a size 12 orange blob.
A dude there asked us if he could have the fish. This was our answer:
It would be a shame to kill such a beautiful fish. A few minutes later I hooked a little steelhead. Only a little guy, but it still put a surprisingly good bend in my 7weight and showed us how high he could jump. He took a blue estaz egg on a size 12 hook.
After about an hour of no action I changed to 4lb test seaguar tippet and hooked into this dropback male
My buddies were beginning to feel the effects of the cold temperatures, but I after landing the second steelhead I was unable to stop. After switching to a pearl krystal meth egg I hooked into this chromer
I thought taking off the hat may make for a better picture, I was definitely wrong
All in all it was a great day on the water, and I can't wait to be done university just in time for the trout opener
Tight lines,
Mike

Should be in the FLYFISHING FORUM!!!!!!
Unacceptable posting in the regular fishing section!!
I know if i posted a wally I caught in the flyfishing forum they would have a heart-attack about it... they'd freak out and lose their minds about it.
Guess we're open to taking a few liberties of our own here!

Nakker,
I've been on the board for a few years, this is the first time anyone has complained about a float or fly report in the fishing section. I have a passion for flyfishing, but at the end of the day, fishing is fishing and the adventure is often the same. If you are offended by my pictures I am sorry, but if seeing pictures of trout caught and released bothers you so much, a fishing forum might not be the right place for you.
