Ice Thickness on Bay of Quinte?
Ice Thickness on Bay of Quinte?
Hi Folks,
Does anyone know the latest ice thickness on the BoQ? I'm lookin' to get out their this coming weekend.
The weather network shows -5 to -8 oC this week, so hopefully that will promote some ice forming.
Thanks for your feedback!

Hey Dustin.....that's a loaded question....the BOQ is a large body of water and ice thickness can vary dramatically depending what area you are planning to fish and the current in that area.....at this point given the mild temps and run offs we've had recently, I would be extremely cautious on where to fish......
Maybe some of the newer F-H member guides on this site can chime in...
If I was to venture down there right now on my own, I wouldn't think of driving my quad or sled out on the ice until I made damn sure it was safe.....I would also be wearing my survival suit!
Play safe and good luck!!

I would say in general its losing ice fairly quickly. We've lost a few inches over the weekend here on Hay Bay and is getting worse.
Massassauga Pt. is not safe. A wheeler went through there on the weekend.
Green Pt. is extremely dangerous. A wheeler went through there as well.
Huffs is sketchy with varying ice as well.
Deseronto near the bridge has patches of open water.
Near the mouth of the Trent is getting sketchy as well.
All the other places that had good ice are deteriorating quickly with heavy slush.
Things aren't going to be getting any better until we get a week or so of good -10 and colders days/nights.
Better to be safe and if you don't know the area don't risk it.
No fish is worth a life in my eyes.

Tried to book a guided trip today on the Bay of Quinte. It was recommended that I wait until February because of unstable ice conditions. Better be safe than sorry.

I doubt it Steve....
A couple of Wannabe Moderators scared the beejebers out of them already...
Anyways, let's not stray off this post...it's important to get all the facts on ice conditions down there right now!!!
One guide took 2 FH members out on 2 inches of ice lately....thats the kind of service I'd like.... ...Another "guide" has been on the job for 2 weeks.....ya...those are the kind of guys ya want to give you advice...Bass Addict wrote:TroutnMuskieHunter wrote:
