Lake Nipigon
Lake Nipigon
This summer I took a trip to Lake Nipigon with 2 good friends Wig(Rob) and Moosebunk(Drew).
here a few pics from the drive up(left click on any picture to see the full size shot)
Old Blue(my truck) was put to pasture this past summer , and is now been retired to a farm in Smith falls where she is living out her remaining days... safe from falling thru the ice and stuck in the back woods of Ontario, she has been replaced with this.Nipigon was her maiden voyage
Couldn't resist this shot
Once we arrived, we made a couple of loads to remote site that would be our home for the next week
Our home away from home
Bunks
Wigs Home
And mine
Once we had set up we had a few hours left of day light so we when after some Brookies,I have never caught a brook trout before so i was excited about catching my first Wig has been fishing Brookies all his life and was hoping to hook up with a new PB.
Wigs rod was the first to fire.... with this monster
A new PB
Words could not describe the excitement in the boat, after only 10 minutes of fishing a trophy Spec was hooked and landed. But that would be it for the day... so back to the camp to set up for supper
Bunk and Wig fixing the fire place
Wig doing up our dinner
Bunk splitting up fire wood
Sitting back relaxing
A wide angle shot of our Camp site
The Big-O at rest for the night
From here on in I'm not to sure of which fish was caught when... so I just let the pics do most of the talking
Bunk spotted a nice weed patch so away went the brookie rod and came the pike rods... The bunkster was to score almost right away
We had a few followers but nothing would take... so back to the Brookies
Bunk had the hot Hand scoring this beauty next.
I finally hooked into my first ever brookie.... Bunk said he had never seen such a small brookie from Nipagon ...but it was a monster in my eyes
Then we made a steady pick of them for the next hours or so
That water was perfect for the first couple of days
I posted this picture here before
A bald Eagle
zoomed in
That night we packed up early to catch up on some much needed sleep.... we drove non stop and it was catching up on us.
The next morning the water dropped and the big was beached.....
With a hell a lot off pushing we got here off the beach... but in the process broke the transducer off the back off the boat, when i bought the fish finder off Eyetracker several years before, he pit on a new transducer on ,leaving the old one wired in but not hooked up, so Wig and I swung the Stern in using logs as levers managed to get the back of my boat out of the water where we proceed to change the transducers... but i guess being out of the water and in the sun for so long ...it didn't work, so we were blind for the rest of the trip... counting out any chance for us to use my riggers for those famous Nipagon Lakers
We made a trip into town to take a much needed Hot Shower at a local truck stop and pick up supplies.... Bunk took this opportunity to check with one of the locals about launching at another lake for Rainbows,Spec and some walleye
The winds had picked up up and the temperature dropped so it left us fishing for monster pike
I was lucky and hooked into a good one, while fighting it Wig and Bunk spotted a bigger pike following mine .
if you look closely at the right side of the picture... in the wake of the fish that is hooked you will see it
In This picture the fish is in between the two shadows that are closest together
Bunked cleaned the pic up and zoomed in on it(thanks Drew)
Bunk picked up his rod made a cast to the fish nothing... then a second cast... fish on
Bunks pike led him to the back of the boat which gave me a chance to land mine
While unhooking mine Bunk was brought back to the bow with his
As it turns out this was not the bigger pike we seen but another one,at this point i should mention that Wig could have put the camera down and tried for the bigger of the 3 pike ...but he didn't he just kept shooting pictures... thanks Rob!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Both fish in the boat and two very happy campers
My pike turns out to be 41 inches and a new PB
After that flurry was over we moved to another spot in between 2 islands that we had spotted earlier in the week , we were trolling threw when wig gets a hit.. then nothing.. bite off, away went the brookie gear and out goes the pike gear..... wig was our official Pike finder... he would get bite off... we new to get ready for some more Pike action, again i was the lucky one to get the first hit
This one tipping the the tape at 40 inches... 2 forty inches on the same day... I was pumped
The release
Wig did get into the action by landing this beauty...
Later that day we were joined by the rest of our group Muskie Magnet(Pat) and his buddy Gord and Scottiedog(Scott)Pat was the one that organized the trip... but due to my holiday schedule we could leave at the same time...
our tent city had just doubled in size
Pat wasen't long before hitting the water, it was raining pretty hard so they wern't out long
After that pat was at the stove cooking up the boys supper
The next day we were back after the brookies
And Pike.... a baby and What I'm used of catching
we went back to the pikespot inbetween the islands and i hooked into this one
the real size
This next fish is a once in a lfe time fish... it was caught by Drew....
this fish was a tagged fish
What a fish, I believe it was 26 inchs and 7 pounds...
Wig was having a hard time keeping yhe fish on... but later that day he landed about 5 in a row, they are different fish. and for some unknowen reason I only got pictures of 3 of them
On they way back into Camp I hooked into this one that turns out to be my new PB.. of 23.5 inches
This is the only fish I kept.... it's bound for my wall.
I know I have missed posting some fish along the way but you get the jist of the trip...
all to soon it was time to head back
The boat loaded for the trip back to the truck
Pat was kind enough to load the reat off our gear so we only had to make one trip
The 3 amigo's
Here are a few other shots
A few one the way home
A fishing trip of a life time... which i hope to do again soon
